Locally made Christmas treats to fill your belly

Posted on

Forget milk and cookies, these are the treats Santa will actually want to eat.

One of the best parts of Christmas (in our humble opinion) is the food. And while the savouries – honey-glazed hams, fresh king prawns and roast turkey – are usually the stars of the show, the sweets always go down a treat.

But if you don’t feel like whipping up some yourself, these local Canberra businesses have done the hard work, so all you need to do is pick it up and eat.

From traditional Panettone to mince pies, trust us when we say that you’ll shoot to the top of the Nice List if you show up to Christmas Day with one of these.

Traditional panettone from L’épi

For families who end Christmas Day cutting a slice of panettone, L’épi is once again baking the traditional Italian sweet bread. Available to pre-order from Chisholm, Kambah and Yarralumla, their iteration is studded with sultanas and candied orange peel, giving it that authentically soft, fragrant texture that makes it so good.

Stollen and Eggnog Filled Croissant from Three Mills

Baking up some German Christmas bread, Three Mills has created something a little bit naughty and a little bit nice. Traditionally made with nuts, spices, and dried or candied fruit, and coated with powdered sugar or icing sugar, it’s only available for purchase on weekends and in super limited quantities. Can’t go past a holiday twist on a classic pastry? Their Eggnog Filled Croissant has landed for the festive season. Think: golden, flaky layers with house-made eggnog crème and a generous coating of baked-on sugar for that crisp, caramelised snap.
