They’re the recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation, handwritten on batter-splattered…
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Canberrans love brunch.
Buvette Bistro and Wine Bar has introduced a new brunch experience which is sure to become a hit. Called ‘Petit Feast’, it offers brunchers an impressive spread to start their weekend.
Doma Hotels’ Executive Chef, Fabien Wagnon describes Petit Feast as “a mix of brunch and high tea, but with something for everyone.” My friend and I were fortunate enough to attend the very first Petit Feast, and it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
For $65, you get a generous serve of savouries, charcuterie, cheese, and desserts, and a complimentary glass of rosé on arrival (which can be swapped for juice for lightweights like me or those who can’t drink for other reasons). For an extra $15 you can also get bottomless Mimosas or, if Bloody Marys are more your thing, you can get one for $10 (the table next to us ordered one and it looked amazing).
The food comes out in savoury and sweet courses, and we’ve been told that the menu will change regularly.
For our first Petit Feast—we will be going back!—my friend and I were thrilled with the beautifully presented plates of savouries that included oysters, quiches, finger sandwiches, olives, a mini pie, eggplant, and Dutch and Spanish cheeses. These were accompanied by a wonderful charcuterie platter. It was fun to eat our way through the different things, and great to try foods that you might not normally order, or get with a high tea.
The sweets turned out to be as prettily displayed as the savouries, and it was a real challenge trying to decide what to have first! It’s always a relief when food tastes as good as it looks, and it certainly did at the Petit Feast. By the way, if you’re concerned that the word ‘petit’ means small, let me reassure you that we left so full that I didn’t need dinner that night!
Whether you’re a bruncher looking for a new experience, or a place to relax and indulge with your friends or significant other, Petit Feast is perfect. It would also be a lovely way to celebrate a special occasion, like an engagement, birthday, or anniversary.
