Six places to get a marg this International Margarita Day (not that we needed an excuse)

Posted on

When life hands you limes, make (or buy) margaritas.

It might only be Wednesday, but we’re already cooked. And after a long week, you have to admit nothing sounds better than a cold, salt-rimmed glass filled with tequila, triple sec, and lime. Luckily, it’s International Margarita Day (not that we ever need an excuse).

And from the slightly funky (did someone say a toffee-flavoured margarita?) to the spicy, we’ve hunted down six places to get your marg on.

Have a suggestion? Don’t get salty (sorry, that pun was just begging to be used). Send us an email and we can add in your fave locations!

When you think margaritas, of course tequila/mezcal bar and taqueria Loquita comes to mind. Choose from 10 different types of this iconic drink, including the Piña-Lita (Sierra Reposado, Cointreau, plantation pineapple, fresh lime and pineapple juice), the Toffee Margarita (pictured) and frozen Watermelon Margaritas (which are $10 during Happy Hour…talk about a deal hotter than jalapeños).

17 Garema Pl, Canberra| Open Tuesday – Saturday, 4 pm – late | loquita.com

Beach Burrito Co.

Nothing goes together better than a burrito and nachos with an icy cold margaritas—which is why Beach Burrito is one to add to your list. From classic to coconut, (or a frozen lemon lime flavour) there’s sure to be something that tickles your tastebuds. Order a jug and let the fiesta begin!

181 City Walk, Canberra | Open Tuesday – Saturday, 12 pm – 9 pm| beachburritocompany.com

Need a little spice in your life? Dolly’s has you sorted with a jalapeño marg…think chilli infused Corazón Blanco, Marie Brizzard triple sec, fresh jalapeño, lime and agave. Yum. Oh, and in case you needed even more convincing on International Margarita Day the classic option will be $5. Shut up and take my money.

50 Bunda Street, Canberra | Open Monday – Saturday, 12 pm – late | dollyscanberra.com

The perfect combination of tequila, Cointreau and lime juice, garnished with a salty-sweet rim and a slice of lime…you can’t go wrong with a classic. And while Public in Manuka is known for their pub fare, heading in for a margarita or two on a Wednesday night sounds like a slice of heaven.

Manuka Arcade, 1/33 Flinders Way, Griffith | Open Sunday to Thursday, 11 am – 11 pm and Friday to Saturday, 11 am – 12 pm | publicbar.com.au

Two Blind Mice

Don’t want to venture into the city for a spicy marg? Two Blind Mice in Curtain is taking your local to a whole new level with the hot combination of jalapeno spiced tequila, Cointreau and lime on the menu. Make a night of it to enjoy the casual atmosphere with the not so casual food or stop in for a quick (and well deserved) drink.

 6/44 Curtin Pl, Curtin | Open Monday to Sunday, 11:30 am – 9:30 pm | twoblindmicecurtain.com.au

House-made frozen margaritas anyone? While Cartel Taqueria isn’t technically open on International Margarita Day, waiting a day to sip combinations like classic lime and chilli mango or passionfruit coconut as the sun sets over the Queanbeyan river is well worth it. Add a taco (or five) and make an evening of it—just make sure to get your order in early, unsurprisingly they sell out very quickly!

Ray Morton Park, 6 Trinculo Pl, Queanbeyan East | Open Thursday to Sunday, 12 pm-late. Walk-ins only | @cartel.tacos
