Steak-out: Five places for great steak in Canberra

Posted on

With salad or chips, medium rare, blue or well done—no matter how you like yours, we have the steak for you.

Don’t mis-steak us—we realise an old-fashioned steak can be something of a wintry meal.

But when it comes to summer, what’s better than a delicious barbequed steak sandwich or an eye fillet fresh off the grill and served with crunchy salad?

Here are some of our favourites places in Canberra to steak-out (sorry) this summer.

THE DISTRICT

A classic suburban pub and family eatery, it’s no surprise The District know how to serve up the goods when it comes to a steak.

Whether you’re after a healthy option—or just, you know, love steak—the District team has your back. We’re talking a hearty eye fillet with roasted potatoes, roasted pumpkin, broccolini, Dutch carrots and your choice of sauce—or even a cheeky Surf & Turf on a Porterhouse steak.

CAPITOL BAR AND GRILL

There’s something perfect about the marriage between Capital Bar and Grill’s moody interiors and their impressive steak menu.

Here, steak is taken to the next level—think sliced into melt-in-your-mouth pieces and garnished with simple yet delicious sauces.

MARKET GRILL AT PIALLIGO ESTATE

Pialligo Estate’s newest restaurant—Market Grill—is focused squarely on paddock to plate food with minimal fuss, including a seriously impressive selection of aged and fresh steaks.

Paired with some of the Estate’s vegetables grown mere metres from the restaurant, this is a place for carnivores who take their steak very, very seriously.

ROYAL HOTEL QUEANBEYAN

Aside from boasting a super slick refurbishment, Yak Brewing just named the Royal Hotel Queanbeyan as the best place in Australia to get a ‘pub steak’, so they had to make this list.

What a menu that will make carnivores cry with happiness (probably), these steaks are worth crossing the border for.

CHARCOAL RESTAURANT

Long-time steak-lovers will be intimately familiar with Charcoal—after all, it’s what they’re best known for.

In this charmingly ’60s-style bistro establishment, enjoy an extensive steak list—complete with an extensive wine list and knowledgable staff to guide you through pairings.
