You had me at ‘pinball, bowling, burgers and cocktails’

With its timber ceilings and nostalgic warmth, there’s something special hidden in the basement of Woden’s newest pub.

Located on the bottom floor of The Alby is the ultimate modern pub experience—The Alby Basement. Think: sitting with a cocktail in hand to watch your mates play pool while you use the table QR codes to order food from a curated menu of woodfired pizzas (we recommend the Prosciuttos, Rucola & Grana!), burgers and moreish bar snacks.

As the night progresses, head over to the Duckpin bowling lanes to land a few strikes or maybe the Guns N Roses pinball machine is calling your name. Is your team playing? Catch the game live and in HD on the basement’s big screens. No need to stay at home.

Book a big table at the back of the room under the big screens to catch all the sporting action or, if you’re visiting on date night, sneak around the back of the basement bar where a row of private and intimate two-person bar tables await.

Home to all this and more, The Alby’s games basement is a new addition to the southside that not only brings good vibes and good times but also the best bits of a night out on the town in the heart of Woden. And with music and laughter spilling out of the doors every Friday and Saturday night, we can see why.

Keen to try Duckpin bowling? This isn’t your usual alley bowling. A 10-pin game popular throughout Canada and the United States which uses smaller-sized balls without finger holes, Duckpin bowling doesn’t require special shoes and is best enjoyed with a drink in hand. Better yet, every Wednesday night, The Alby will host social Duckpin Bowling with a $50 voucher up for grabs–that’s 2.5 Amaretto Sour’s if you’re keen to try all the bevvies without breaking the bank.

From 7 pm you can fight it out for the top spot or take home $30 for second place and $20 for third, but if you’d prefer to keep it more casual you can call ahead to reserve the lane whenever you’d like to play.

Keen on pool? We recommend getting some practice in because every Tuesday, the games basement is home to a pool competition that will see the best battle it out. Simply book your spot in advance, pay the $5 entry fee, grab a cue, and be prepared to show off your skills. With another $50 voucher on offer as first prize, dinner (and maybe a cheeky drink) will be on The Alby.

If pool doesn’t get the ball rolling in your friendship group, kick it old-school and have a go at one of the basement’s five pinball machines, including the just-released Guns N’ Roses machine in a limited-edition format. Perfect for the young at heart, it’s reminiscent of teenage kicks, with the bonus of a bar nearby. You can even book the basement for your next function, because who doesn’t want to play pinball on their birthday?

And with a Southside cocktail on the drinks menu (a bitey citrus-driven classic with gin), we only have one question: Meet you at The Alby?
