In a chaotic world with a seemingly endless work cycle, Lorraine Murphy’s latest workshop couldn’t be more relevant.

The award-winning entrepreneur and bestselling author is coming to the University of Canberra next month to host a Get Remarkably Organised workshop, based on the key principles of her bestselling book Get Remarkably Organised.

In the interactive three-hour workshop, Lorraine will focus on the value of routine and habits, easy de-cluttering, conquering distractions, the joy of hassle-free outsourcing, overcoming procrastination and having harmony at home. She will also work with participants to identify any “roadblocks” they might be experiencing; helping them to design the life they want to be living.

Lorraine says the workshop is relevant to everyone, whether or not they have their own business.

“There’s a lot going on for everyone at the moment—I believe we’re in the most intense society that we’ve ever lived in and our poor brains are just trying to keep up with all the demands we have on them,” Lorraine says.

“We are overwhelming ourselves because we’re trying to take on too much and as a result, we’re actually not taking on anything.

“This workshop will help people get on top of the everyday craziness of their life, and the hints and tricks are simple; nothing’s inaccessible. People are already busy and overwhelmed by complicated life advice—it will be small, simple things done consistently that can change your life.”

Remarkable in her own right, Lorraine started her first business The Remarkables Group in her spare bedroom. The business went on to secure over $1m in revenue in its first 12 months, with clients including Woolworths, L’Oreal, Nissan, Schwarzkopf, Origin, Bupa, Qantas, Bonds and Priceline.

Lorraine’s best-selling first book Remarkability was an entertaining and practical account of the biggest lessons she has learned in her entrepreneurial and business journey (one of her life highlights was spending time on Necker Island in 2016 and learning firsthand from Sir Richard Branson.)

Last year she decided to sell her business in order to focus on her “soul on fire stuff”—writing, speaking and mentoring, and spending time with her 14-month daughter Lexi.

And though there’s no doubt she is a master of many hats, Lorraine is careful to avoid the word “juggling.”

“I do think women are our own worst enemy when we talk about ‘the juggle’ because the fundamental undertone to that is that it’s not achievable,” she says.

“So whether it’s the combination of family, business or friends, I like to instead use the word ‘blend’. It has a much calmer energy than ‘juggle.’

“The other interesting thing is no-one has ever asked my husband how he juggles everything—it seems to be this inaccessible thing that women are meant to master.”

Yes, it’s a good thing to be driven, Lorraine acknowledges, but she has some sound advice: take it easy on yourself.

“We’re doomed for failure as we’re trying to master all these different hats,” she says.

“My advice for people is to try and be really good at one thing, and then once you nail that, you can layer other things within that.”
