How to eat, drink and be scary at home this Halloween

Posted on

Ah Halloween, the perfect excuse to eat, drink and be scary.

Whether you love it or hate it, it’s hard to deny the combination of costumes, sweet treats and scary movies makes Halloween one of the most fun celebrations of the year.

Lets creep it real, this year Halloween is going to look a little different but there’s some good news! From Friday 29 October, ten people can visit a household at any one time and 30 people can gather outdoors in the ACT, just in time to lift your spirits in a spooktacular fashion while remaining COVID safe.

Here are a few ways to treat or treat yo’self this spooky season.

Dress up (even if there’s nowhere to go)

Nothing beats the thrill of getting ready for a Halloween party with your friends, a vodka soda in one hand and your phone in the other as you search for the best spooky jams to get the night started.

This year there’s no pressure to make it to the club on time but why not dress up with your friends and make a night of it? Pull out your favourite costumes, blast the music and get Insta-worthy.

You can even get your family and four-legged friends involved by setting a costume theme and hand out prizes for the best dressed!

To add to the ambience and to create the perfect backdrop, forget fake blood and neon orange pumpkins, there are lots of ways to decorate the house while avoiding a tacky Halloween theme.

However, it’s important to remember that carving a pumpkin is a must-do Halloween activity for the whole family!

Trick or treat yo’self

Forget heading to the street for sweets this year, treat yourself to some dessert delivery to make sure the kids (and parents) don’t miss out on their sugar rush while supporting local businesses.

Choose from 40+ options or even make your own Halloween themed grazing box to nibble on all night. For food with a little more sustenance, order some takeaway from one of the 250+ options for lockdown dining in Canberra and make a festive drink to get boo-zy in style.

We recommend making blackberry and thyme fizz or sangria and adding your own twist with spooky accessories like spiders, eyeballs or dry ice.

Watch some scarily good movies

Halloween and movies go together like Dracula and Gary Oldman so to end the night, settle in to get scared.

Stick to the Halloween classics, choose from this list of spooktacular movies that have strong female characters or watch some PG-rated fun for the family. You can even set up a projector outside for the ultimate experience!

If movies aren’t your thing, tell ghost stories or listen to some Halloween themed podcasts to end the night. There are endless options to choose from, so don’t be surprised if you’re up past the witching hour.

It might not be the Halloween of our dreams but it’s a fangtastic way to have some wicked fun.
