Is a luxury cabin in the Snowies your perfect weekend getaway this autumn?

Posted on

How is it already February? 2024 is getting away from us, so what better way to slow it down than an escape to the bush and a dip in a woodfired hot tub?

One of the most underrated places to visit outside the winter season is the Snowy Mountains.

Towns like Cooma, Jindabyne, Thredbo, and Perisher are buzzing with action as soon as the snow falls, but outside the madness of ski season, these places return to their naturally sleepy and relaxing state.

Nestled in an alpine valley just 10 minutes out of Jindabyne (an easy two-hour drive from Canberra), you’ll find one of the best spots to enjoy the peace and quiet: Crafters Luxury Eco Accommodation.

We arrived on a sunny weekend in February, the car struck by an awed silence as we approached the beautiful stone-clad cabin. The devil is in the details, and Crafters have got the details down pat – and it’s an eco-traveller’s dream!

Perfect for a solo getaway, or quality time with someone you love; this slice of paradise is surrounded by 13 acres of beautiful Australian flora and fauna for you to explore.

Whether it’s the stunning sustainable, locally sourced materials; expertly crafted accents; buttery linen sheets; the art, pottery and furniture sourced from Australian artisans (all of which you can purchase for your own home!); or the luxe spa-quality body products – these off-grid cabins offer much more than you might expect.

“Inspired by the pristine beauty of the Snowy Mountains, we envisioned a space where sustainability and opulence seamlessly coexist. Our founding inspiration lies in the belief that you shouldn’t have to compromise on luxury to embrace eco-conscious living.” – Founders Dan and Mitch

You won’t have a reason to leave Crafters either, after an easy check in we donned the linen robes provided before strolling out to our very own personal, woodfired hot tub. This was the perfect way to spend the evening, listening to the crackling of the woodfire, gentle birdsong, Kookaburras in the distance, and the slow munching of the kangaroos only a few meters away.

After soaking for an hour, we had a quick rinse in the double shower, enjoyed a quick homemade dinner using the fully equipped kitchen, and finished our day with a movie (yep, there’s even WIFI!) in one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in.

Crafters’ attention to detail means you also have windows perfectly positioned to admire the stars as you fall asleep, and enjoy the slow sunrise as you wake.

If you’re looking to venture out, you’ve got great food just a short drive down the road, be it breakfast at Birchwood, brunch at Bebita, a romantic dinner and cocktails at Pinot’s Wine Bar, a pub feed at Jindabyne Brewing or Wildbrumby Distillery, or a taste of Japan at Takayama.

If you’re craving a bit more of an adventure, you can try out one of the many bushwalks and hikes in the region (we did 4-hour Thredbo to Mt Kosciuszko Walk), enjoy the views as you kayak on Lake Jindabyne, hit the Alpine Bobsled in Thredbo, or hire a Mountain Bike and take to the trails (you can even ride from Thredbo all the way back to Jindabyne!).

Whether it’s for a celebration, an anniversary, a well-deserved mental break, to help you focus or relax a little, we highly recommend Crafters as a way to make memories you’ll savour for the rest of 2024.

Just a weekend in this sun-powered, private oasis and we feel like we’ve made the most of February already! Just don’t tell anyone else, we’re keen to keep this a secret for as long as we can!
