Canberra Centre brings big names to new My Style, My Way campaign

If you are seeking style inspiration with the change in season and the move into winter fashion (in a city where winter fashion is a very serious business), then look no further than Canberra Centre for a very personal campaign featuring some well-known Australian faces.
Brooke Boney, journalist and activist; Lee Carseldine, sports personality and former Australian Survivor; and Brooke Jowett, another Australian Survivor and activewear designer, are the stars behind the My Style My Way campaign.
The campaign features the latest styles from the centre’s wide array of fashion labels, yet each personality interprets winter’s essential looks in their individual way.
Brooke Boney, who is a presenter on the Today Show and a voice for the advancement of Indigenous rights and women’s equality, loves using fashion to reflect the version of herself she’s presenting to the world at any point in time—whether that be with bold colours that pop on TV screens, or subdued pieces that conjure a sense of calm.

“I value having meaningful conversations about the things that I care about—particularly Indigenous affairs and women’s issues. I feel lucky to be able to have those conversations and be a representative of both groups in the media.”
Much like her career, Brooke’s personal sense of style is a tale of contrast. She explains, “I really love bold colours—especially for on-air, as vibrant pieces really pop. I also love mixing textures like a beautiful silk shirt with some leather pants and a big fluffy winter coat.”
Brooke’s advice for discovering your own style is to know what styles suit you rather than slavishly following trends.
“My advice is to seek clothes that make you feel confident, because nothing will look better than something that you feel good in. It doesn’t matter what the trend is or what the style is, what matters is how you feel it and how you would wear it.”
As the weather begins to cool, Brooke loves to layer with winter fashion essentials. And she has an addiction to coats. “I love coats! I think I might have a problem. I also like scarves, beanies and big cardigans—I’m a real comfort person and I do love being rugged up.”
When she visits Canberra Centre, Brooke knows exactly where to shop for items that align with her style. “I love Bonds for basics like cool t-shirts or even singlet tops. I also love Witchery—I’ll go into a Witchery store whenever I see one. Seed is great for jeans or trans-seasonal jackets, then it’s got to be Adidas for shoes. I’m a big Adidas girl—I love the Rod Laver sneakers; I probably have five or six pairs of them in different colour combinations! Then for beauty, I love Mecca —I mean they’ve got everything!”
Lee Carseldine wears many hats, but his career profile would best read as an ex-professional cricketer, business owner and TV presenter. If you’re a Survivor fan, you might also recognise Lee from Season One and Five of Survivor: All-Stars.
Lee prioritises dressing for both comfort and style.

“I’m very laid back with my sense of style—my days are very busy and I’m moving around a lot. Comfort and practicality are important to me, but my outfits also need to have an element of ‘sharpness’ about them. I could go from an important meeting or out on site with my business, to dropping my boys off to school or soccer training.”
As the days get cooler, Lee loves to embrace the change of seasons and the trends that come with it.
“I live for the cooler months. In the cooler months, you can have a few more layers and play around with them, which is great.” The style-savvy ex-sportsman also relishes in an opportunity to layer in accessories—the beanie in particular. “I have a lot of hats, but in winter I get excited about wearing a beanie because it’s not often cold enough to wear them. The other thing that I’d never leave home without is a watch. I do love my watches, so I’ll always wear a watch.”
When it comes to fashion stores, Lee loves shopping at a mixture of casual, street-style and high-end, particularly when searching for corporate or event wear. “I like General Pants Co and Universal Store for more street-style casual days. Also, as an ex-sportsman, I can’t go past Rebel Sport. That would be my go-to place for picking up activewear. If I were getting a little more ‘dressed up’ I would definitely go to Peter Jackson—I love their style.”
Brooke Jowett doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Whether it’s dominating on Australian Survivor: All Stars, guiding people towards their fitness goals as a personal trainer, or growing her sustainable activewear brand ‘Jrsy’, her style is just as diverse as her career.

For her more casual day-to-day life, she admits to being completely activewear obsessed. “I’m probably in activewear 90 per cent of the time. When I’m at home, I’m in activewear, when I go to the shops, I am in activewear.”
And on the rare occasion Brooke is not sporting activewear, she tends to gravitate towards a more casual, laid-back style. She loves to rock the boyfriend look, with baggy pants or a crop or oversized tee or jumper.
Although this doesn’t mean she doesn’t love to get glammed up—Brooke, like many of us, loves a day out at the winery and takes delight in any excuse to get dressed up for the day.
Winter is all about layering for Brooke. Neutral, earthy brown colours are her absolute favourite trend this season, especially for coats. When asked about her top winter fashion tip, Brooke says, “I love layering up and having a snuggly warm jumper underneath a coat—also any excuse to wear a beanie is a good excuse for me!”
But this winter Brooke is going to embrace a more vibrant colour palette.
“One thing that I like to do is to stick to neutrals and blacks, so I really want to push myself this season to try some of the brighter colours like the lilac and bright green. I feel like now’s the time to branch out a little bit with colour—even just if it’s just a little pop.”
If she was heading into Canberra Centre today, she has no doubts about where she’d go. “If I am looking for something a little dressy to wear out, I love Seed. My whole family loves Seed! Or if I’m heading out and I need a full outfit, I’d go to Myer.”
“If I need a new t-shirt, I always go straight to Cotton On because they’ve got really good basics. And then Decjuba—I get all my puffers from there. In terms of shoes, I am a Wittner and a Platypus kind of girl. I get my sneakers from Platypus and would head to Wittner if I’m looking for a dressier shoe. I also love Bonds. I’m such a Bonds gal—and everything at Bonds is just super comfy.”
