Tip toe into Spring…

Posted on

Winter is always harsh on our skin. One place I’ve found it to be particularly brutal is my feet!

I wear ballet flats and so don’t often wear sockets or stockings with them, which tends to leave my feet in a cracked and dried out mess.

With sandal season right around the corner, it’s time to get your feet in tip top shape to bare those twinkle toes!

But if you can’t afford to splurge on regular salon pedicures then following these steps at home every week, in the lead up to the warmer months, should work a treat.

Soak your feet

If you happen to have a foot tub, soaking your feet is the first step to getting them smooth. If you don’t have a foot tub have a nice long hot shower, this will help soften your feet.

Scrub your feet

You can either buy a great foot scrub product from places like The Body Shop, or if you prefer making your own and going au natural, mix brown sugar, baking soda and olive oil for an effective DIY foot scrub.

Using your fingertips scrub your feet in a circular motion starting at your heels and working your way around your feet. You want to do this for, at the very least, 2 minutes on each foot.

Buff your feet

Using the good old fashioned pumice stone, wet it and start buffing away at your feet. The key is to be gentle – you want to abrade only the very top layer of skin, not rub your flesh raw!

Moisturise your feet

The last step is adding some much-needed moisture back into those damaged paws. I’m a big fan of coconut oil. I lather my feet in the stuff right before bed, pop on some cotton bed socks and let the magic happen while I sleep!

Shea butter is also a great alternative as it douses your feet in moisture to help repair the damaged skin.

I recommend doing this to your feet once a week in the lead up to spring and summer.
