Bite-sized flicks: Flickerfest returns to Canberra

Flickerfest Canberra will return to Palace Electric next Thursday 4 April.
The perfect way to fit a whole lot of content into a single screening, Flickerfest proudly shows off the incredible work of both Canberran and Australian filmmakers in bite-sized format – strictly short films only.
This year’s selection of highlights showcases the Best of Australian ‘Kapowerful Short Films’ from Flickerfest’s main month-long festival held in Bondi across January.
Shown over one continuous session, Flickerfest Canberra will kick off at 7 pm and tickets include a catered after party.
Get ready to laugh out loud, sit in awe and have your heartstrings pulled as you dive into a range of themes from self-discovery and internal torment to connection and identity, all set in the wondrous and diverse Australian landscape.
Here are four short films to look forward to.
Della Mortika Carousel of Shame
Della Mortika: Carousel of Shame has been brought to life by Canberran mother and daughter duo Geraldine and Marisa Martin. After seven years in the making, the team are proudly showing their animation that secured them Best Australian animation at Flickerfest 2019.
Della Mortika tells a steampunk animated tale of three sisters shown through the art of delicate paper cutouts. Della Mortika tale takes you on a journey “where steam is king, where life is hard and where adventure is always adventure” and stars the voices of Noni Hazlehurst, Xavier Samuels and Paul McDermott.
All These Creatures
As the winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2018 and Best Editing in an Australian Short Film at Flickerfest 2019, All These Creatures is a moving family drama that explores the attempts of a young man to untangle his mysterious memories of an infestation, his father and “the little creatures in us all”.
Desert Dash
In a dystopian Australia, opals are the only currency worth having and Desert Dash is a race for survival to level up and win.
