Gotta eat ’em all: 2022’s new places to eat

Posted on

It’s been a huge year for new eateries in Canberra. How do we know? 90+ have opened.

From the coolest new bars to cute cafés and rocking new restaurants, after an unprecedented two years, it’s incredible to see how Canberra’s hospitality industry has rallied.

To celebrate we’ve rounded up every new eatery that we’ve featured in our 2022 editions of ‘New Places To Eat’, sorted by region. And with plenty more (hopefully) to come, it’s probably time you invested in some more stretchy pants.

How many have you crossed off the list?

Just make sure to check their holiday opening hours!

Wine Room (City)

Building on the success of the much-awarded Gather café, which takes out the front real estate onto Mort, this intimate 40-seater venue (including the private dining room and an outdoor area with 10-odd seats spilling out into the alley on Mort Street) is tucked away, but unmissable once you know where to look.

While the name suggests Wine Room is, well, a wine room, the menu screams destination dining ambition. Read more here.

Edo Tori (City)

Located in the spot where Momoda and Soju Girl once sat, Edo Tori has been appointed in dark colours with lots of banquet seating and feature walls of Japanese art.

While the food also looks artful, Owner Runze Liu is keen to point out that Edo Tori is a casual place, prices are surprisingly low and conversations with friends over chicken yakitori and an Asahi Superdry (one of the eight beers on tap) are to be encouraged.

But that’s not to say he has not gone to enormous effort to produce a menu which traverses Japan’s favourite snacks—charred edamame with house-made togarashi, softshell crab tempura and pan-fried pork gyoza for starters.

Gravy ‘N’ More (Kingston)
