How to spend Galentine’s Day three ways

Posted on

It’s one of our favourite days of the year – the annual celebration of friendship.

And if you don’t know about it, you should. Rising to international acceptance after a hilarious episode of Parks and Rec, Galentine’s Day falls on February 13 and offers the perfect excuse to celebrate the special friendships in our lives (female or otherwise).

But if you’re stuck on ideas for things to do (or you haven’t even started thinking about it), don’t worry – we have some suggestions on how to spend Galentine’s Day three ways in Canberra. Whether you’re a homebody, want to hit the town, or do something completely different, here are some things your friends will love!

At home

Craving a cosy catch-up at home? Here are a few suggestions.

Have a charcuterie night

Wine and cheese are always a good idea – but might we suggest leveling up your charcuterie board with a savoury cheesecake instead of your usual slice of brie?

Our Managing Editor recently made this Cheeseboard Basque Cheesecake with chives, parmesan, and blue cheese for the office – and my God it was amazing. Moreish, cheesy, and perfect for banging in the middle of the table with some bread, you can’t go wrong with this on Galentine’s Day.

Host a mixology party

Because who doesn’t love mixing cocktails? This Raspberry and Mint Slushie recipe is perfect for anyone who would prefer not to drink alcohol, while rosé lovers will adore this sangria recipe with fresh nectarine, blood orange, raspberries, and brandy.

Prefer champagne? This pretty-as-a-picture recipe for Blackberry and Thyme Fizz will impress everyone – and it’s super simple to make!

DYI your own spa day

If you’re trying to save some money but still want to pamper yourselves, an at-home spa day might be the perfect way to spend Galentine’s Day. Grab yourself a face mask, boil the kettle for some tea, and put on some calming music for an intimate and relaxing night that will leave everyone (hopefully) feeling nice and refreshed.

Black Salt Dining

A newbie to Canberra’s dining scene, Black Salt is the place to book if everyone is craving a different cuisine, but all want to eat at a restaurant with water views.

A little away from the noise and traffic of the main strip of Eastlake Parade, eat your way through sashimi of Hiramasa kingfish with pina colada sauce, confit duck leg with Brussels sprouts, and truffle oil, and more.
