Almost every Easter event for Canberra kids (and their very tired parents)

Posted on

Hot cross buns in the oven, chocolate eggs stashed in increasingly creative hiding spots, and four blissful days off – Easter in Canberra is always a fun time.

And this year? The city has pulled out all the stops.

Whether you’re chasing egg hunts across the suburbs, boarding a heritage steam train, or finally getting to that mini golf course the kids have been begging about, there’s something on every corner of Canberra to keep little ones (and let’s be honest, their parents too) thoroughly entertained.

From late March through to the school holidays in April, here’s your comprehensive guide to everything happening for families across Canberra this Easter season.

And yes, it’s absolutely acceptable to eat the chocolate for breakfast. At least once.

Get the Easter season started with these events…

Bunnings Kids DIY Easter Workshops

Free, family-friendly, and always a hit – Bunnings is rolling out their beloved Kids DIY Workshops every weekend in March with an Easter twist. Little ones can get crafty making Easter bags, Easter bonnets, and Easter plaques, with all materials provided and a whole lot of mess enthusiastically encouraged.

For something a little more festive, the Easter Family Night is a fun-filled evening packed with activities, crafts, and festive treats at Belconnen and Majura Park (5 pm–7 pm) and Gungahlin, Fyshwick and Tuggeranong (6 pm–8 pm) on Thursday 26 March. It’s free to attend, with tickets required.

South.Point is becoming a go-to destination these school holidays, with a free Easter Egg Hunt running across the long weekend that’s equal parts adventure and chocolate reward.

Kids collect a basket and clue card from the Easter cart (located opposite Big W), then follow the clues to find participating retailers throughout the centre – earning stamps and eggs at each stop before heading back to fill their baskets. It’s a clever way to explore the centre, and the pay-off is very much worth it.

The Easter Bunny will also be roaming the centre for photo opportunities throughout the morning, so keep your eyes peeled.

Then in the afternoons, the magic shifts to the enchanted Bunny Garden (outside Daily Market Grocer, 1 pm–4 pm), where the activities take on a more whimsical flavour: felt garden crowns, candy flower pots, and mini fairy gardens that are almost too pretty to take home.

Shoppers can also try their luck at the Lucky Carrot Pluck every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am–1 pm outside the Daily Market Grocer — spend $30 or more at the centre and you’re in with a chance to win gift cards, dining vouchers, or gift packs.
