Pandemic Pilates: Mini-workouts to get you moving at home

Posted on
“‘Not only is health a normal condition, but it is our duty to not only attain it but to maintain it”, Joseph Pilates (founder of the Pilates movement concept).
Fun fact: A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that home workouts were very effective at reducing people’s depression levels during the early months of the pandemic.
Have you been following our Pandemic Pilates sessions this month? It follows the mantra: “Something is better than nothing”.
In the study, the TYPE of exercise they chose didn’t really matter. Whether it was HIIT or yoga, people’s mental health improved. Once again demonstrating that exercise really is medicine.
Now—what can you do today to help yourself? How about we start with just three exercises and work up from there?
Supporting you to stay active in your comfy lounge room is our goal. We have purposely given you only three exercises as it’s achievable, maintainable, time-friendly and realistic.
If you’ve recently started exercising with us, I’d recommend checking out the workouts from 2021 which are available here. We have a simple structure for this week’s mini-workout:
Pandemic Pilates: Upper limb strength workout

1) High plank with trunk rotation
2) Horizontal Shoulder Abduction with Exercise Band
3) Walkout to kneeling push up
Next week we are shifting our focus and targeting workouts for those recovering from COVID. We are very mindful that everyone’s symptoms are different, so the “post-COVID Pilates” mini-workouts will be a beginner focussed program – targeting breath, activation and strength-endurance.
Do you have any workout requests? Let us know!
