It’s a huge month of events—and this week you can sip back and relax with artist Sally Black, drop the kids off for some creative time and sate your shopping addiction.
Here are six things you can’t miss this week at the DESIGN Canberra Festival—and with over 250 things to do, there really is something for everyone.
City Sessions: Pop Inn Bar + Music

Heading to the Festival Hub to enjoy the art installations (and maybe buy yourself something from the Festival Hub shop)? Every Friday night from 5:30 pm until 8 pm, Civic Square will be taken over by the Pop Inn Bar and jazz trio Good Gosh, so you can enjoy a glass of wine—or two—and some live music while you shop stunning handmade items by local artists or take part in some drop-in art activities.
The perfect precursor to dinner in the city, why not unwind and make a night of it?

Open Studios: EDITION, Spinning Gum Pottery, Nicola Knackstredt Jewellery, Curtis Glass Art, and more

Ever wanted to see the inside the studios of Canberra’s best designers and creatives? Get excited, on Saturday 12 November there will be over 40 open studios and open days of key arts organisations around town so you can do just that.
From the sustainable fashion of EDITION to jewellery from creative Nicola Knackstredt and most of the studios artists at m16artspaceyou’ll be able to purchase handmade ceramics, furniture, textiles, glass, and more—directly from the artists (while picking their creative brains).

Creative Kids: Designing Futures

Perfect for kids aged five to 12, at the free Creative Kids: Designing Futures workshop they’ll be helping design Canberra’s future while letting their artistic skills flow.
Making paper sculptures to include in the Canberra Futures installation (which will be developed over the duration of the DESIGN Canberra Festival) and with plenty of Saturday sessions available, there’s no excuse for the kids to say they’re bored on the weekends.

Sip and sketch with artist Sally Black

Love to paint and sip (who doesn’t)? Sharing her skills and passing along important artistic knowledge, local artist Sally Black is hosting an afternoon by the lake sketching food and DESIGN Canberra art installations.
Teaching participants how to capture a time and place through a combination of food sketching and urban sketching, you’ll be guided in using black ink markers combined with watercolour paint. And while you’re playing with sketching materials, you’ll be able to enjoy a glass of wine (or other drink) and a grazing platter from The Jetty. Yum.
