“Canberra is boring.” Yeah right. Here’s our ultimate boredom busting, sightseeing, visually pleasing, foodie appeasing…
Yep—no kidding, folks.
After this week’s first drive-in cinema article almost blew the roof off the internet, we received an email informing us that this winter, Canberra will play host to not one, but two drive-in cinema experiences. Not to mention another parking lot party with movies and a whole lot more.
Well, strike me lucky, Canberra—or perhaps I should say strike you lucky, as you’re clearly fans of drive-ins.
2020’s second drive-in cinema kicks off on 1 July and will be hosted by none other than the crew that brought bed cinemas to Canberra (remember that?), with their new, COVID-friendly version billed as the Mov’in Car drive-in cinema.
Taking place across 19 days in the large Questacon car park next to Lake Burley Griffin, Mov’in will be styled as a classic ’50s drive-in experience, complete with New York-style pizzas delivered to your car.
However, it’s not all retro, with screenings including Joker, A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody alongside iconic films like Titanic, Dirty Dancing and Toy Story. And, if you’re in the mood for a sing-a-long, The Rocky Horror Picture Show will deliver.
What’s more, if for some reason you can’t BYO car to the drive-in, you can rent one of the cinema’s, with three Peugeots available to rent each night. Lush.
