Ginninderry’s new display village is taking things to a whole other level

‘GX – The Ginninderry Experience’ will launch this weekend with a range of events and activations including 16 cutting-edge display homes.

Forget what you think you know about display villages.

Ginninderry’s new display village will open to the public from Saturday 26 October with a whole weekend of celebrations, and it’s a lot more than just a bunch of display homes. Even Scotty Cam will be there.

Named ‘GX – The Ginninderry Experience’, the village will launch with a range of events and activations including a local arts trail, the latest sustainability initiatives, a tiny house, and 16 cutting-edge display homes.

It even has its own dedicated mobile app, The GX App, which will take you on a tour of the village and homes, and help you uncover additional information.

The brand new community in west Belconnen’s newest suburb Strathnairn, which will one day be home to 11,500 homes, has been designed with innovation, diversity and ecological criteria at its core, and Ginninderry project director Steve Harding says the display village is a way to see the ‘Ginninderry difference’ in action.

“We set ourselves a challenge to deliver a display village with a difference—a place that inspires visitors and increases their understanding about what’s possible when it comes to sustainability, modern design and smart planning.”

Even if you’re not currently in the market for a new home, GX is worth a visit.

Always looking for ways to reduce your footprint on the planet? There’s plenty to learn from GX’s sustainability trail featuring more than 50 of the latest sustainability products and features, including a zero-energy house.

“Ginninderry is the region’s only ‘6 Star Green Star–Communities’ rated development and we’re doing things very differently when it comes to sustainability and community outcomes,” says Ginninderry sustainability manager Jessica Stewart.

“We’ll be showcasing the latest sustainability features including solar energy packages, double glazing, electric vehicle charging points, low energy lighting, a grass driveway and much more.”

“The village will also feature ‘Mini-G’— a fully furnished 27sqm tiny house along with a turf display where visitors will be able to view seven different types of irrigated and non-irrigated turf.”

And steering away from the mass-produced products that usually decorate display homes, the Ginninderry team has worked closely with the local arts community and commissioned more than 100 pieces from local artists ranging from paintings to ceramics, sculpture and glasswork to produce a unique Artists Catalogue

“Our builders have selected a number of pieces to be featured in each home and visitors will be able to use the GX App to find out more about the artists and each piece,” says Ginninderry community and cultural planning manager Susan Davis.

“Each featured piece will be for sale and my hope is that we can use the arts trail to build the profile of our local arts industry and inspire visitors to consider a piece for their own homes.”

As part of the opening weekend, there will be appearances by Scotty Cam from The Block, and Paul West from River Cottage Australia.

There’s also plenty to keep the kids entertained with appearances by the ARIA-nominated Teeny Tiny Stevies from ABC for Kids, and Junkyard Beats (feature image) with their high-energy routines including body percussion, fire drumming, junk percussion, pyrotechnics and hilarious skits.
