Oktoberfest Parklands is back
Posted on
After a hugely popular inaugural event in 2017 that saw 4,000 people descend on Patrick White Lawns, Kicks are bringing Oktoberfest Parklands back with a bang.
A recent jaunt to Germany has renewed my appreciation for beer, bratwurst, Berliners, and all things Bavarian, so it’s safe to say that when it comes to Oktoberfest Parklands, I’ll be there with bells (or rather, a Dirndl) on.
On Saturday 20 October, the Parliamentary Triangle will be transformed into a Bavarian extravaganza, with more German culture than you can shake a stein at.
For starters, there’s the smorgasbord of German food and drink on offer. There will be plenty of brews on offer in the huge craft beer hall, as well as a curated selection of German cider and wine.
Treat your tastebuds (and line your stomach) with authentic Bavarian food trucks. Sample some kransky or bratwurst from Berlin Bangers, who took out the title of Sydney’s Best Sausage at the Royal Easter Show. If it’s a schnitty you’re craving, visit Rolling Schnitzel for burgers, wraps, snack packs and of course, the classic schnitzel and chips. 2 Smoking Barrels will be serving their delicious barbeque while Volkswurst will be serving everything from currywurst, to sauerkraut, chili cheese kranskies, and more.
The ultimate German celebration requires a bevy of Bavarian tunes. Oktoberfest Parklands will see a huge line-up of bands taking to the stage, as well as DJs and musicians to keep the party going. Oompah bands will play traditional German anthems and classic sing-a-longs like Ein Prosit, Country Roads and Fliegerlied, and the Silent Disco will be making a much-anticipated comeback, featuring an array of local DJs.
There’s also roving entertainment—think acrobats, roving musicians and a mysterious and stealthy Oktoberbest photo bomber. Stop in at Sideshow Alley for rides and non-stop amusements like games and carnival attractions. Keep an eye on the main stage for competitions including best, dressed, stein holding and more—as well as the O’zapft, the traditional ‘tapping of the keg.’
To fully immerse yourself in Oktoberfest, you’ll want to get your hands on some authentic German threads. No need to journey to Deutschland—Kicks have partnered with Oktoberfest Costumes Australia to offer 10% off all costumes and accessories. Ladies can select a Dirndl or ladies lederhosen, while men usually don their lederhosen, platterhosen or a plaid shirt. Take it to the next level with a Viking helmet, novelty stein glasses or a platinum blonde plaited wig.
