Everything you need to know about canberra. ONE DESTINATION.

The (socially distanced) Weekend Edit

Posted on

Welcome to the essential guide to your weekend, Canberra, brought to you in partnership with Zango, Canberra’s locally owned listing site.

WEEKENDS IN THE TIME OF COVID-19…

The Weekend Edit is usually bursting with great events and encourages people to get out and about. However, things are very different for Canberra at the moment. Events have been cancelled, social-distancing is encouraged and much of the city is in self-isolation. So we’re going to do things a bit differently.

Each Friday we’ll be rounding up a selection of socially-distancing friendly activities for your weekend. Let’s stay safe and sensible, Canberra, and we’ll get through this together.

HOW THE HERCANBERRA TEAM IS COPING IN THE AGE OF COVID-19: BEATRICE SMITH, ONLINE EDITOR

Hi everyone, I’m Bea, HerCanberra’s Online Editor, and here’s what I’ve been getting up to this past week.

EAT + DRINK

My parents are currently in quarantine after my Mum flew back from the UK, so I’m cooking my sister and I corn fritters, which is one of Mum’s lunchtime staples.

This Bill Granger recipe is pretty spot-on, although I usually use canned corn or creamed corn instead of fresh. I also suggest topping them with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce or Salsa Fresca.

When it comes to drinks, I’ve been trying to #supportlocal as much as possible, with coffee from Lonsdale Street Roasters for the AM and gin from The Canberra Distillery for the PM.

LISTEN

I’m a huge podcast junkie (I wrote about some of my favourites here) so there’s been quite a bit of that. But I’m also trying to set different moods with music to make the days feel less same-y.

For this, I’m loving Spotify playlists Rainy Day Jazz and 80s Hits.

MOVE

I normally love huge, loud group fitness classes in huge, loud gyms so was a bit worried about working out at home, but the LesMills On Demand website is super slick and lets you choose workouts from 15-60 minutes. Pleasantly surprised.

WATCH

I’m getting very overwhelmed by the news at the moment, so I’m stripping things right back to basics….to an almost embarrassing level.

In the past week, I’ve watched High School Musical and Teen Beach Movie with my sister (don’t judge me) and Melissa McCarthy’s masterpiece Spy—my go-to for easy laughs.

PLAY

Mindful colouring is all the rage at the moment and the New York Times has come up with an online option that’s perfect for kids and adults alike.

I’ve also been doing social-distancing quiz time with my Grandma using old Good Weekend quizzes. You can find them here.
