Birdsnest Canberra Pop-up 

The birds are back in town! Cooma’s most famous fashion brand is making a temporary nest in Narrabundah for another Canberra pop-up.

SpringOUT Pride Festival 

Celebrating Australia’s most LGBTQIA+ friendly city and Canberra’s LGBTQIA+ community in all its fabulous diversity, it’s time to SpringOUT with ‘PRIDE in the Capital’ on their 25th anniversary!

2024 Craft + Design Canberra Festival 

It’s the 10th year of the Craft + Design Canberra Festival, and there’s plenty to see and do. Connecting Canberra’s community with over 500 artists, craftspeople, designers and architects, the 2024 Festival advocates for design thinking, collaboration and making by hand to generate innovation and solve problems, providing hope for the future. 

With a theme of Regenerate, the program of events includes exhibitions, talks, tours, activations, open studios and workshops responding to the festival theme and celebrating Canberra as a creative capital and a global city of design.

Boo! A trick or treat comedy 

Get ready for a spooktacular show this Halloween!  Join the Lightbulb Troupe for a night of tricks and treats, where supernatural powers collide with hilarious chaos.

Come Alive Festival of Museum Theatre 

The Come Alive Festival involves students from secondary schools in the ACT visiting the National Library or the National Portrait Gallery; selecting a character, object or event; and devising their own performance piece in response to the items in the national collection. Conceived by drama teacher Peter Wilkins, the festival, now in its 15th year, picks up on the rich resources in our national collections.

Research festival 2024 

Whether its women in sport, or making our waterways cleaner the Research Festival hosted by the University of Canberra explores the many ways research is impacting the lives of Australians and especially Canberra. Exhibitions 

Pattern Recognition 

Pattern Recognition celebrates female and non-binary artists from the ACT region who use abstraction and design principles to explore colour perception and spatial relationships, highlighting the ways artists approach colour, geometry, and form. 

While the artists in the exhibition explore similar visual terrain, embracing non-objective abstraction, repetition and pattern, their underlying conceptual investigations and influences vary and include post-colonial and feminist frameworks, climate activism, architecture, memory, extended pictorial space, mindfulness, and sensory engagement with the materials. The exhibition investigates regeneration, exploring the influence of traditional craft disciplines on contemporary art practice.

Creative Connections with Nature

Lindy Lee 

This exhibition is the compliment to the latest permanent sculpture to make its home in the National Gallery of Australia, Ouroboros. I am a New Woman Art Exhibition 

Parliament House artist-in-residence, Alison Alder celebrates 12 women who campaigned for more inclusive democracy in the series of screen prints. These women spent decades mobilising for the cause of political citizenship and are depicted in a mix of contemporary photographs, quotes and collage.

Canberra Potters 2024 Members’ Exhibition 

The Canberra Potters Members’ Exhibition is back for another year.

Marion’s Vision 

Marion’s Vision explores and celebrates the legacy of Marion Mahony Griffin, an influential figure in Australian architectural history. 

Showcasing the work of Canberra Art Workshop (CAW) members inspired by a vision of Canberra that resonates with the legacy and lasting influence of Marion Mahony Griffin, everything from her innovative and forward-thinking approaches to urban planning and landscape architecture to art, nature, and architecture will be explored.

This is M16 Artspace’s annual Studio Artists’ exhibition.

Island Hopping: A Solo Show by Jeffrey Sarmiento 

Known for his creative practice exploring cultural identity and the graphic image in glass, Jeffrey Sarmiento embeds layers of information in his intricately constructed objects, sculptures and public commissions. 

An expert in kiln formed and digital fabricated glass, he uses cutting and pasting of printed glass lenticular imagery and within the transparent medium, allowing imagery to swim within the pieces. Head along to the Canberra Glassworks to see his work, which helps him to expose complex narratives and create new ways of seeing.

Mythica Ignota: Solo Exhibition by Elliat Rich 

Showcasing new work developed during Elliat Rich’s residency at Canberra Glassworks throughout 2024, Mythica Ignota uses mythology as a framework to nest scientific observation and more-than-human orientated values with artefact and narrative. 

Curated by Aimee Frodsham, in this exhibition Alice Springs designer Elliat Rich taps into ancient and future ways of seeing the world.

ICN World Natural Games 

ICN (iCompete Natural) is the world leader in natural bodybuilding and physique contests, welcoming all members of the fitness community. 

Hosted at the Australian Intitute of Sport (AIS), this sounds like a fun family day out watching athletes compete in categories such as Fitness, Sports Model, Classic Physique, Bodybuilding and much more. This is the first time in the 30+ year history of the sport that Canberra will host this prestigious event, making it a weekend not to be missed!

Community Tennis Day 2024 

This free community event will be the place to check out and experience what the Summer of Tennis has in store. 

Kids will have fun in free Tennis Hot Shots classes by Tennis World Canberra, ballkid activities, roaming characters, face painting and glitter tattoos while adults can take part in Cardio Tennis classes, or Pop Tennis. Off court, there will be a range of food options available, tunes from a local DJ, free seated massages from CBR Massage, and the chance to grab a photo with the Australian Open trophies! Plant Propagation Workshop 

Jane, Meet Gather Collect’s resident plant person, will lead a two-hour workshop on indoor plant propagation. 

You’ll learn about propagating in water and in soil and how to transition your babies into larger pots. Everyone will take home a collection of different cuttings to grow on, plus you will get to take home your very own handmade propagation station! Bring your own plants that you wish to propagate.

Spring Garden Vase- A Floral Workshop with Miss Moss

Circle the National Triangle Cultural Trail 

How well do you know Canberra’s National Triangle? Did you know it was part of Marion Mahony Griffin and Walter Burley Griffins’ plans for Canberra as part of the 1911 international design competition?

This is a two day workshop where participants will learn how to stretch, heat, and shape glass tubes into basic curves and forms. Introducing the basic principles of neon production and demonstrating each of the processes of neon required to leave with a finished neon sign or design to take home, you don’t need any experience to try this for yourself.
