First Look: Pialligo Estate Farm Shop Cafe

But wait, there’s more! Pialligo Estate has unveiled yet another new offering—the Farm Shop Café.

Things are growing at Pialligo Estate—and we’re not just talking about their blossoming orchards or market garden.

We’ve already written extensively on the Estate’s newest restaurant—Market Grill—and summer bar—Pialligo Fields—but just down the road, there’s even more happening—and it’s letting you access the Estate’s paddock-to-plate offerings in a whole new way.

Having quietly opened over the weekend, the Farm Shop Cafe is now in full swing with a delicious yet more casual way for Canberrans to experience Pialligo Estate’s renowned hospitality, perfect for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and coffee.

Located at The Plot—just a stone’s throw from Pialligo Estate at 12 Beltana Road—the café offers an all-day brunch and lunch menu that encompasses classic Pialligo Estate dishes such as charcuterie, pickles and smoked meats alongside larger lunch items and other quick goods from the hot and cold cabinets, breakfast favourites with a twist, coffee from Seven Miles and homemade cakes and sweet treats.

“At the moment, we have a fabulous slow-roasted beef brisket burger on a brioche bun with apple slaw and some great breakfast items like corn toast and eggs with dill hollandaise and smoked dukkah,” says Leonie Sassall, Manager of The Plot.

“We use nothing but the best, including Three Mills Bread and free-range eggs and can also do cold brew coffee.” Essentially, the making of an especially delicious summer brunch.

But it gets better—the Farm Shop Café will also offer a provedore where visitors can purchase Estate made-items such as jams, relishes, chutneys, oils, wine and award-winning Smokehouse products.

Slow Poached free-range Japanese inspired chicken salad with organic cold buckwheat noodles, fried nori, pickled ginger and avocado with sesame and sweet teriyaki dressing.

“We really are offering paddock to plate where ever we possibly can,” says Leonie. “This is where the Farm Shop Café has evolved from—it’s not just on your plate anymore, you can take it home.”

A multi-purpose space that acts as a satellite community for Pialligo Estate, The Plot was a natural choice when it came to expanding its lifestyle offerings.

“Lots of place in Canberra sells our Smokehouse products, but we haven’t had a proper shop selling our own produce—this is our opportunity to showcase it all,” explains Leonie, adding that the cafe will also stock a curated selection of non-Estate delicacies with as few food miles as possible.

“Obviously Canberra isn’t a cheese place,” she laughs. “So, we’ve gone elsewhere for that but are keeping things as local as possible—we see The Plot as a real community site, bringing the best of the best together.”

The Farm Shop Café will round out a diverse selection of offerings at The Plot, including homewares, fashion and accessories from Flamingo and Sass and Wren & Rabbit, just for starters.

The Plot is also home to The Possum Patch—Pialligo Estate’s kids’ events centre which provides full-service birthday parties and school holiday programs for little ones with a focus on food education and getting back to nature.

And, in what will be music to many parents’ ears, the Farm Shop Café also boasts a kids’ sensory playground that is fenced for safety—perfect for parents to sit while their little ones play with a latte in-hand (or a brisket burger).

“The kids can play and parents can enjoy brunch,” says Leonie. “You can tick a few things off your list in one spot, at The Plot you can eat, potter around and just relax.”
