The Canberrans: Nik Bulum
Posted on
Nik Bulum is the creative and developmental force behind the hustle and bustle of Braddon’s Lonsdale Street.
Want to know who made the first move to turn Braddon from car yards to cafes? Look no further.
In this first episode of our new podcast and video series The Canberrans, a collaboration between HerCanberra, Newcast Studios, Salon Canberra and Lonsdale St Studio, we quiz Nik on how he rates Braddon now, and where to next for Canberra.
He is candid about how he finds the process of development in a city where Government planners do not adapt well to change and outlines the problems that creatives have when it comes to activating a space.
Find out what sparked his initial interest in the once grease-laden mechanic shopfronts and car yards of Lonsdale Street and what he thinks now that Braddon has been well and truly made-over. Just don’t ask him about parking—we warned you!
Stay tuned as Nik reveals some exciting plans for the former Bowls Club site on Braddon’s Elder Street. He may have shut down former restaurant Bonkers after community outcry, but he promises to come back bigger and better than ever with a set-up akin to Alexandria’s The Grounds—only his will be on “steroids”.
Stay tuned for further details on this one, and tune in for the full episode below.
If you want an extended version and love yourself a podcast, you’re welcome—we’ve done that as well. Listen to the podcast here.
