A feast for the eyes, Denman Prospect’s new display village opens (all of) its door(s)

Blueprints, renders and Computer-Aided Design are all useful when trying to envision your brand new dream home.
But nothing beats walking through the door and feeling the space for yourself.
So if you’re thinking about future living, Denman Prospect’s new Romano Street display village now has not one, not two, but five new homes ready to show you the way. And another three are in the works!
For long-established family-owned NSW building company Mellross Homes, it has been a welcome opportunity to enter the Canberra market.
Their “Stromlo” display home is their first build in the ACT, with the company deciding a presence in Denman was an opportunity not to be missed.
The company acquired all the necessary ACT licences and insurances, and Managing Director Mathew Mellross designed the home from its initial concept to its final plan in conjunction with his long-term Drafting and Design team, Arei Designs.
According to Operations Manager Jacqui Arbuthnott, “Our aim was to achieve an open, spacious, and well-thought-out home, accentuating the beautiful surroundings and bringing views inside, from every angle.”
“We have the only single-storey home in the Denman Display Village. In a display village, all of the homes are beautiful and each have their own ‘wow’ factor/look and feel. We needed to maintain the same level of excellence but stay true to our brand and our inclusions (on a smaller block).
Jacqui said the company felt fortunate to be represented in such a high-quality setting with stunning views of the Molonglo Valley, the National Arboretum, Parliament House, Black Mountain, and Mount Stromlo as well as being a part of Capital Airport Group’s commitment to quality and excellence in urban design, including shopping, lifestyle amenities and a park that is arguably the city’s finest.
Jacqui said the company was thrilled with the finished result.
“Our favourite aspects would be the use of natural light and incorporation of the surrounding landscape in the main living and entertaining areas. We have encouraged our design to speak for itself and have created a beautiful home with many well-thought-out features.
And while Mellross is new to Denman Prospect, Molonglo Constructions boss Tejinder Bhagria has been living in the suburb for four years.
“It was a long-cherished goal to be in the display village and we worked really hard to be considered as one of the display village builders.”
“We have lived in the Molonglo Valley since 2012 but only once we moved to Denman did we realise how beautiful and different this suburb is. It is truly multicultural and has got a very positive vibe to it.”
TJ, as he is known, said the company felt that expectations were high for the home, which is named “Molonglo 1”.
“We were conscious of the image of our company as well as the Denman Prospect suburb so we wanted to bring out the best we could offer.”
His wife and company partner also took part in some of the design decisions alongside their architects, Chris Heyward and Adrian Lance from Heyward Lance Architecture, who describe the house as a contemporary, light-filled four-bedroom with open plan and multi-generational living.
According to Adrian, the firm’s ethos is always to ensure that “homes are well-oriented, respond to the site, are light-filled and provide flexibility for future changing needs of residents.”
“We wanted the house to be unique and demonstrate a high design standard that reflects Molonglo Constructions.”
Features which make the project stand out include a floating fireplace design, a cut-out central courtyard, curved wall, light-filled spaces and contemporary street frontage.
“We wanted the entry to feel open and provide a direct view towards the curved wall and central court so that you immediately see landscape, interest and light upon entry, so that there is a feeling of connection with the outdoors as well as interest as you walk through the residence.”
These homes are now open to the public. Take the time to tour the sales suite, which is also an architecturally-designed home at the top of the street before taking in the display homes .
