10 of the coolest locally-made gifts at POP Canberra

Posted on

The last 18 months have seen a groundswell of Ken Behren pride, as well as a tough hand dealt to the city’s makers and artists.

So this Christmas, we’re all about supporting local—and what better place to do that than at Braddon’s POP Canberra? Established in 2018 as a way for local makers and artists to showcase their wares, POP Canberra has transformed into a gifting emporium this silly season, with everything you need to tick off your Christmas shopping—including late night shopping every night until 24 December.

Stuck for inspo? Here are 10 gifts across a range of prices that are quintessentially Canberran—from Annette Blair glassware to mini-bus shelters—to help you #shoplocal this Christmas.

Festive earrings by LLL Designs, Murphy and Me and AMY Creative and more (from $10)

What is Christmas without festive baubles to adorn your lobes—literally? POP’s range of earrings is truly epic (have you seen their four metre earring wall?) and this December it includes the cutest seasonal shapes too.

POP Made Candle in collaboration with Annette Blair Glass ($110)

These candles (pictured at left) smell and look amazing—but there’s a bit more to it than that.

“We have worked with world-renowned glass artist Annette Blair to create a series of hand-blown glass vessels to hold three signature POP Canberra scents that were developed in collaboration with Lucian Candles,” says POP founder Gabe Trew.

“’POP Punch’, ‘Sun Soaked’ and ‘Field of Daisies’ bring to life the scents that capture our hearts and minds.”

The Canberra Distillery Christmas Garnish Baubles ($19)

The perfect Kris Kringle gift (or anyone with a healthy gin obsession), crack open one of these adorable baubles to reveal the perfect botanical gin garnishes—from juniper berries to dried citrus and rose petals.

POP Canberra X Underground Spirits Sweet Sun Soaked Gin ($106)

Speaking of gin…have you met Canberra’s newest? Another POP Made product created especially for sun-soaked Canberra summers in collaboration with Underground Spirits, this gin pops (sorry) with notes of mango bubble tea, bay leaf and native lime.

It’s also pictured above with POP Canberra X KAH Tumbler ($88), also available for purchase. Make ours a double, thanks.

Canberra Bus Stop by In Iteration ($30)

Need the perfect gift for a Ken Behren who has moved away? These 3D printed models of Clem Cumming’s iconic Canberra bus shelters are the sweetest little gift—and even come in a rainbow pride version! Run, don’t walk.

Hand and cuticle oils by By The Be. ($36)

We’ve written previously about By The Be. the luxurious hand and cuticle oils created by Jessica Peris, founder of Franklin beauty mecca The Beautique. Available in a range of heady scents, these small luxuries are the perfect gifts for the beauty-obsessed in your life.

Straight Outta Mugs ($20)

These make me chuckle every time I see them in-store and honestly, who doesn’t need a #kenbehrenpride mug? My 88-year-old grandmother loved the one I gifted her last year (Straight Outta Kingston, for those wondering).

Koko Artisan Chocolate Advent Calendar ($24)

Have you ever seen a sweeter (sorry) advent calendar? Sweet tooths young and old will love Koko Artisan’s innovative way to count down the days until Christmas and it makes the perfect “What on earth do I get them?” present. The best part? With a week to go until Christmas, they can eat most of it immediately.

Thirsty Body Scrubs ($12.50)

Body scrubs are all the rage at the moment—and these locally-made ones by Thirsty are the cutest stocking stuffer or Secret Santa present you ever did see.

Made with all-natural ingredients, they’re the ultimate body buffer for summer. Dry, rough skin? We don’t know her.

POP Made POP Punch Tea, in collaboration with Tea Garden Co ($20)

Even 30-degree days are refreshing with a POP Punch Tea in hand, yet another offering from the POP Made range, this time in collaboration with Tea Garden Co..

A blend of freshly squeezed orange, bitey pineapple and juicy passionfruit with a kick of hibiscus, it’s summer in a glass—especially when served iced
