The Look of Love: embracing the romance of makeup
Posted on
Whether you have a special date planned for Valentine’s Day or maybe a night out with the girls, it’s a great time to embrace the romantic side of makeup.
To me, romance is all in the eyes; so it stands to reason that the makeup look you create should be centred around your eyes. When you want your eyes to stand out, false lashes are the way to go – Your lashes don’t have to resemble those of Jersey Shore, there’s such a variety available these days, you can go for a pair that add just a touch of drama to the eye. My go to pairs are Cha Cha Cha by ModelRock and The Nude Lash by Napoleon. If you find it difficult to put on false lashes then go with lashings and lashings of mascara instead!

For your eye makeup itself you don’t want to detract from your beautiful eyelashes. Use a fleshy colour shadow or something lighter on your lid and inner corner of your eye and use a slightly darker colour in the crease of your eye – blend blend blend!

If you’re confident when it comes to eyeliner then you can add that to this look, if you’re not then best to give it a miss on this occasion.
To create a beautiful colour and glow to the cheeks I prefer liquid blush over powder. I find it looks more natural and it’s easier to blend. You only need a tiny amount of liquid blush to get a great colour, my favourites are from Make Up For Ever and Benefit.

Lipstick is another personal choice. I think on Valentine’s Day you’re likely to be doing a fair amount of kissing, so gloss or a natural pink would work best. However if you’re a lover of lipstick you can’t go past red – it screams romance!

However you’re spending your Valentine’s Day I hope you have a great time!

Love the natural glow of our beautiful ‘blushing’ model? Here’s how to get it.
Prep: This is all about minimal romance, go light with the foundation or opt for a BB cream to create a natural base.
Eyes: Individual lashes or lots of mascara, with a very simple eyeshadow – something natural and flesh toned. TIP: To stop your mascara from clumping go over the top of it with a clean mascara wand to help separate the lashes.
Brows: Leave brows natural, just brush them into place and set with a clear brow gel.
Cheeks: Liquid blush, but use it sparingly. You don’t need a lot to make an impact. Start with dabbing it along the cheekbones then blend using your middle finger.
Lips: A clear gloss and natural pink lip is all that’s needed for a simple yet romantic look.
