What to stream this October

Posted on

Whoever said binge watching was only for cold winter days was lying.

Just because spring has sprung, it doesn’t mean that Netflix (and ABC iView) have stopped serving up the goods.

Here’s what to watch this October.

TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE

Released in August this year, if you haven’t already watched To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, snap to it! The feel-good rom-com has won over its Netflix audience as it follows a young teen through the dramas of her high school romances.

Appealing to almost anyone who has been young and in love, the film is easy-watching, undeniably sweet and perfect for a weekend movie session.

THE GOOD PLACE

The Good Place is a quirky Netflix Original series that follows main character Eleanor, into the afterlife. A bit of a dirtbag on earth, Eleanor is quick to discover that she has been put into the ‘Good Place’ by mistake.

With its cheeky, sarcastic humour and fan-favourite Kristen Bell, The Good Place meets the ultimate binge-watching criteria. With two full seasons already on Netflix, the only downfall is you’ll be utterly hooked and have to wait each week for new episodes of season three to be released.

MANIAC

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga of True Detective, new Netflix miniseries Maniac is as thrilling as it is mind-boggling. With Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in the lead, the series follows the two as they volunteer for a three-day drug trial. Aimed at reprogramming the mind and curing emotional trauma, the trial is potentially dangerous.

Challenging its viewers from start to finish, Maniac will have you guessing what’s next at every turn. And trust me, you will get it wrong every damn time.

KILLING EVE (ABC iView)

This female-dominated ABC series has been the talk of the town from before it was released, and it’s no wonder why. Based on a novella from Luke Jennings, it follows two women, an MI5 officer and a trained assassin, in a cat-and-mouse chase.

The eight-part series is available on ABC iView in full and you better jump on it now, because Season Two has already started filming and is due to hit the screens in 2019.

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE

Season 5 of BNN has just dropped on Netflix, and you need to go and binge watch it right now. Picking back up with Rosa and Jake behind bars, the season continues to deliver witty humour and entertaining plots.

What’s better is that after a crazy 31-hour Twitter frenzy after FOX announced its cancellation of the show, we will be seeing Season Six through rival network NBC.

THE SPLIT (ABC iView)

Following two generations of lawyers in a family firm, the series begins with Hannah, the eldest of three daughters shifting to a rival firm after her mother refuses to step down and let her take over the company.

The series is an on-screen display of family and business dynamics, office politics and, of course, a few romance sub-plots in-between.

Available on ABC iView, the six-part series has just been given the go-ahead for a second season.
