How very. Heathers the Musical is coming to Canberra

Dear Diary, you’ll want to remember this date, because Heathers the Musical is coming to Canberra.
Grab your scrunchies and start practicing your croquet swing, because in April 2026, the global phenomenon Heathers the Musical will be embarking on the major Australian tour, stopping off in Canberra to belt out the mercilessly catchy mix of ballads and bangers that have made the production so popular.
Yes, including “My Dead Gay Son”. How very.
Based on the cult 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, which gained it’s cult status for its witty one-liners, dark themes and social commentary (who can forget the line “My teen angst bulls*** now has a body count”?), the dates for the high-octane, black comedy rock musical have yet to be announced.
And if you haven’t seen it before, you’re in for a treat.
Retelling the sardonic coming-of-age story written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann, Heathers the Musical follows Veronica Sawyer, just a teenage nobody dreaming of a better day.
Set in Westerburg High, where cliques rule, jocks dominate, and where popularity is literally a matter of life and death, Veronica is unexpectedly taken under the wings of the beautiful and cruel Heathers.
Yes, there are multiples.

But when mysterious teen rebel J.D. arrives, Veronica soon learns that it might kill to be a nobody, but it’s murder being a somebody.
Following its recent record-breaking seasons in London and New York and brought to life by the award-winning Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives), Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde The Musical) and acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman, the Australian run promises all the Big Fun you know and love.
“We can’t wait to share this twistedly heartfelt story with audiences down under. It’s a show that deals with love, heartache, sadness, defying expectations and being true to yourself,” says Andy.
“Ever since its premiere, Heathers the Musical has been a labour of love for Larry, Kevin and me but what’s truly thrilling is how much audiences take this show to their hearts.”
Is your love for Heathers ‘God’? Make sure you order yourself a slushie, look up the meaning of the word ‘myriad’ and sit back as Veronica asks the ultimate question: “Are we going to prom or to hell?”
