Make a splash when the mercury rises at these Canberra playgrounds with water play.
Need to keep the kids busy on a sweltering day? The pool may sound like the most obvious option, but what if your little one can’t swim yet or you’re after something free? The answer: playgrounds with water play.
They’re the ultimate two-in-one fun, with the kids able to burn energy and cool off while you get to stay (mostly) dry. Make a splash when the mercury rises at these Canberra playgrounds with water play.
Denman Village Park, Denman Prospect
This astronomy-themed playground has its very own splash pad, which has several different-sized fountains to choose from for kids to cool off. (It’s a good idea to bring a spare change of clothes in case they get too excited!)
Felstead Vista, Denman Prospect
Weston Park, Yarralumla
This park has its own exclusive water area and is such a great space for imaginative play. There’s a rockpool, water funnels and a bridge with little bells that is sure to excite – my kids can stay there for ages! There’s also a small wading area which is perfect for the smaller kids.
Pescott Lane, Yarralumla
Ruth Park, Coombs
Along with a water pump for water play, this modern playground features a bird’s nest tower, pod structures, swings, and slides to keep the kids busy for hours.
Edgeworth Parade, Coombs
Boundless, Parkes
The water jets are always a hit at Boundless! Operating during the warmer months, their water play area has soft grounding and large metal sprouts that can be moved to shoot water intermittently. Bring your swimmers for this one!
Wendouree Drive, Parkes
LESS @ Dairy Road, Fyshwick
Blending concrete, nature and water, LESS @ Dairy Road is a purpose-built garden that allows kids to let their imaginations run wild! Kids can follow and splash through the path of water running through concrete cylinders, or chill on the green spaces in the shade.
It’s also handily located close to Capital Brewing Co if a lunchtime pitstop is needed!
Dairy Road, Fyshwick
Eddison Park, Phillip
This leafy park in central Woden has a large focus on nature play. Home to aquatic birds, a pond sits at its centre with a netted bridge structure that runs close to the water where kids can dip their toes as they cross and indulge in imaginative play.
There’s also a sandpit, three playgrounds, shaded barbecue areas, a skatepark, basketball court and multiple recreational and fitness stations.
Launceston Street, Phillip
Blue Poles Park, Whitlam
This modern playground doesn’t just have water play; it’s also environmentally friendly! The playground’s water play area reuses its water by funnelling it into the root zones of trees within the playground. Clever!

While not technically playgrounds, be sure to check out the public splash play areas at Woolley Street Dickson and Primmer Circuit Kambah!
