Canberra’s best playgrounds with caffeine close by
Posted on
Like many parents, I’ve come to learn every good play date should have two things: a decent park to help little ones burn energy (and if you’re lucky, nap later) and close proximity to caffeine for us not so little ones in need of a fix.
And though Canberra is home to some excellent playgrounds, not all of them are easy walking distance to cafés. With the help of Canberra’s play date/coffee aficionados, we’ve rounded up our city’s best playgrounds that are so close to a good cuppa you can smell the beans. (To make the cut, the parks had to be a decent size and under a five-minute walk with babies/toddlers/prams in tow.)
If we’ve missed some, let us know!

Pod Playground
Pod Playground at the National Arboretum Canberra offers a play experience that’s close to nature. Let the kids run wild hiding in the acorn cubbies, clambering across the climbing nets, making music in the banksia cubbies and slipping down the tube slides while you admire the stunning views over Canberra with coffee in hand from the Arboretum’s café.

Yarralumla Playground
Choose from either Farmer’s Daughter or Beess and Co for your coffee fix at the Yarralumla shops before taking a leisurely walk down the road to the leafy Yarralumla Playground, which has a huge range of equipment for all ages (my daughter loves the turning spider web spinner and swing bridge) as well as ample shade and picnic tables.

Glebe Park
Since this playground is in the centre of the city, there’s no shortage of coffee selections nearby (it’s also the perfect picnic space should the weather permit.)
