Forget going to the gym, or incorporating meditation into your morning routine as a New Year’s resolution, this year we’re all about what we’ll be wearing in 2025!

We spoke to some of Canberra’s fashion tastemakers to find out what their wardrobe goals are for the year. From choosing quality over quantity to avoiding fast fashion, and sticking to their own personal style, these trendsetters are sure to inspire you.

Amy Abrahams, Plus Size Content Creator at Wear the Damn Dress

Amy Abrahams is a fashion enthusiast, body confidence champion, and personal stylist. She started her Instagram account @wearthedamndress to share clothes she loves and promote body confidence in women of all shapes and sizes.

“My 2025 style resolution is to prioritise shopping small. There are so many unique and cool small brands out there doing amazing things!”

“I’ve always been focused on expressing my style in my own way, and supporting small brands is a great way of ensuring my look is always on point, and I don’t see myself and my outfit everywhere!”

“My style resolution for 2025 is to embrace timeless, versatile pieces that fit my new chapter as a Mum.”

“I’m focusing on building a wardrobe of quality essentials that will allow me to feel pulled together while navigating the world of motherhood. Investing in durable, classic pieces is important to me – outfits I can wear repeatedly without relying on trends.

“2025 will be about simplifying, choosing longevity, and celebrating the beauty of well-made, effortless essentials.”

22-year-old Kai Mckenzie quit his day job as an electrician to pursue his dream of becoming a world-renowned fashion designer. He’s already making waves in the fashion world after gaining an international following through his socials, amassing an impressive 87k followers on Instagram. His label Minami celebrates his Japanese culture, with subtle tributes in each of his pieces.

“In 2025, I want to continue to refine my style by deepening my exploration of Japanese symbolisms and culture, making these influences more visible through colours and techniques.”

“I also want to experiment by expressing other, less dominant parts of my personality. I’ll draw inspiration from the 90s and 00s Japanese punk scene, using bold colours and checkers as a secondary element.”

“I plan to push my boundaries with new silhouettes and lengths, stepping out of my usual comfort zone.”

“My wardrobe will become more streamlined, clearing out pieces that no longer reflect my evolving style and replacing them with fewer, refined statement pieces.”

Taylor Delaney is one-half of the creative genius behind Designer Op Shop Emporium in Fyshwick, and the brains behind Style by Tala – a styling service that helps women achieve their personal style goals. Taylor also founded Mesaio, offering customers a curated selection of pre-loved, high-end designer items.

“2025 is throwing me into motherhood as I’m due to have my daughter very early in the year. Many of my friends who are already mothers have expressed how confusing the transition can be for the way we dress. I’d like to stay focused on being as comfortable and wearing what makes me feel good.

“A resolution will be to invest in more key pieces that I will wear over and over again and not get too caught up with ‘trends’. I’m not afraid of wearing something a million times if it works and changing up my accessories to make the outfit feel different.”

As always, I will strive to keep the majority of my wardrobe preloved. Being a co-owner of DOSE and Mesaío allows me to embrace sustainable fashion. I wouldn’t be me without wearing mostly pre-loved items to create my outfits. I’m intrigued to see how my style will evolve once I become a mother but one thing I know I’ll always stick by is being comfortable yet polished, with a little vintage flare.”

“I want to start wearing my best pieces every day – no more saving my favourite pieces for the right occasion. Life is too short, so in 2025, I’ll be working these pieces into my everyday wardrobe and wearing them on repeat.”

“I also plan on dressing more for ME. A fabulous outfit that looks and feels great is my secret weapon when I’m not feeling my best self. In 2025, I’ll be wearing more of the clothes that make me smile and align with my personal style.”

“I want to invest more in quality slow fashion pieces by emerging designers, 2025 will be my year of less is more, investing in special pieces that are made ethically and sustainably. Plus, I love knowing that the designer gets just as much joy from me wearing their designs as I do.”

Kimberley Hunt, Stylist at The Style Side

Kimberley Hunt has decades of experience in the fashion industry. As a stylist, she’s worked in television, and print, and collaborated with fashion brands. As a personal stylist, she’s passionate about helping her clients find practical, comfortable, and fabulous clothes that make them feel their best on a daily basis.

“I want to embrace my love for vintage again. While I believe in a strong core wardrobe filled with quality, pared-back back basics, minimalism is feeling a little uninspiring. I want to start having more fun with quirky details, unique fabrics, and individuality in 2025!”
