Fitness Roadtest: Sky Zone’s Skyfit

Posted on

I believe it was Michelle Bridges that once said “Fitness brings many benefits… but fun is not one of them.”

While it’s a sentiment I do actually agree with, I think I’ve found the exception to the rule. Ladies and gents, let me introduce you to Skyfit at Sky Zone Belconnen.

Sky Zone have a range of Skyfit classes available, all of which run for 30 minutes. There’s Jump Start, Heart Starter, No Ifs Just Butts, Aerial Abs, HiFIIT.

I road tested one of the most intense of all the classes on the menu. After putting on my cute orange Skyfit socks, we’re guided into Zone 2—a grid of individual trampolines separated by pads and a row of TRX suspension cables along the back wall.

Ooh, pretty!

We start out by going over some safety tips (apparently double bouncing as an adult is not fun) and then started learning some basic moves. We jump around our individual squares and learn how to land seated on our knees and our bums.

There’s one move in particular where we jump onto our knees, land seated with legs outstretched and then back onto your knees to repeat the process—kind of like a freestyle dynamic crunch! I could feel my abs working and my heart pumping—it’s clearly a great cardio workout.

After that we move into some resistance work. Half the class are instructed to line up along the back wall for jump squats using the TRX cables while the other half do push ups and v-ups (an exercise that targets your abs) on the trampolines, using the padded edges. Then we swap.

After three rounds, I’m sweaty and exhausted.

A quick water break and then we split into two groups again; the first using the TRX cables again for squats with rows while the other half do low pulse jumps and running man jumps on the trampolines. The goal is to stay low and jump fast, while really pushing your feet down with force. We do intervals of these exercises and then partner up for some fun, cool down exercises.

This roadtest has honestly brought me so much joy.

As a kid, did you ever have that feeling where you had so much fun playing that you just never wanted to leave? That’s how I felt when the class ended. Don’t get me wrong, my heart rate was through the roof and I was pretty exhausted, but I didn’t want the class to finish! It’s playful, challenging, a little bit silly and a whole lot of fun—the way a good work out should be!

I’ll definitely be back for more, and for only $15 per week for unlimited classes until 1 March 2016 (normally $19), there’s every reason to jump to it! Want to try it first? You and a friend can have a Free Trial Class—email skyfit@skyzone.com.au.
