As we shiver into this weekend of subzero mornings and frosty days, many of us find ourselves hibernating indoors and creating a permanent indent on our cozy couches (no one says that’s a bad thing, right?).
While curling up by the heater with a mug of hot choccy and Netflix on standby may sound like the perfect way to spend a chilly weekend, there is a wonderful array of ‘cool’ activities and events to experience when it’s cold out.

MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIAN DEMOCRACY
The Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House is home to some of Canberra’s most insightful exhibitions and interactive experiences, aiming to challenge and inspire.
Open 9am-5pm daily, the Face Up Exhibition celebrates Australia’s vibrant democratic culture and the power of your voice within it, where visitors are able to project their self-portrait onto the walls of King’s Hall, showing the value of Australian democracy.
We are also reminded that small acts and courageous voices can effect political change through the Memories of the Struggle Exhibition, which honours the voices, memories and spirit of Australians, South Africans and the thousands of anti-apartheid supporters who worked to bring racial segregation in South Africa to an end. It is considered to be one of the greatest social movements of the 20th century, and it’s important role in Australia’s political past makes it a must see exhibition.

‘FILMS ON FILM’
THE NATIONAL FILM AND SOUND ARCHIVE
The heritage inspired Arc Theatre at the National Film and Sound Archive, will also be showing a rare collection of 35mm cinematic treasures over the cooler months.
Film buffs can get their fix from a diverse selection of surprising, classic and experimental films, screening every Sunday from 2pm.
