Calling all closet singers: Pub Choir returns to Canberra!
Posted on
Picture this: hundreds of tipsy strangers, packed into a theatre, singing along to their most beloved tunes. Sounds like a night at the pub on steroids, right?
Well, in good news for closet singers, Pub Choir, the worldwide phenomenon, is returning to Canberra on Saturday 12 October at the Australian National University’s Llewellyn Hall.
Based in Brisbane, Pub Choir is the brainchild of Astrid Morgensen and Meg Bartholemew. It was their way of getting people involved in music, with their first event held in 2017.
Originally making its debut in Canberra in 2019, the show is equal parts music, comedy, and beer, and by the end, you’ll be belting out a popular song in three-part harmony.
You don’t need to prepare anything (unless you regularly practice belting out a tune in the shower, or the comfort of your car), simply show up, open your mouth and the Pub Choir will do the rest! Wondering how it works?
In a 90-minute session, a song is taught in three-part harmony before the final product is performed twice and filmed, marking the moment a bunch of strangers are transformed into a formidable choir. Have a bit of stage fright? Don’t worry, rehearsals are relaxed and supportive (and rowdy). And if you have the teeniest, tiniest concern about the quality of your vocal performance, let us reassure you there is NO way you’ll be heard over the hundreds of other people around you.
Pub Choir is strictly for adults and does come with a language warning, so leave the kids at home(but feel free to bring Nan along to croon a tune).
You too can leave your trebles at the door, and live out your childhood fantasy of performing a chart-topping hit. And with only a few Canberra tickets left. you won’t want to leave booking this pub night to the last minute.
